Respiratory Therapy

Our respiratory therapy department provides inpatient and outpatient respiratory therapy and breathing related diagnostic procedures to our patients.

What is Respiratory Therapy?

Respiratory therapists are important members of the health care team. They are skilled health care practitioners that evaluate, treat and care for patients that have breathing or heart problems. Working under the direct supervision of a doctor a respiratory therapist will assume the primary duty of providing all respiratory treatments and breathing related diagnostic procedures. As part of the patient’s medical team, respiratory therapists consult with physicians and other staff members to develop the best plan for patient treatment. Independent judgement is exercised by therapists who must make critical decisions while providing complex therapies for patients being treated in intensive-care units or on life support.

Here at the Heart of Texas Healthcare System, our respiratory therapists help newborn and elderly patients alike. We not only see outpatients, but we also work very closely with the Emergency Room and inpatients to achieve the highest quality patient care.

You must have a prescription for all procedures that our respiratory therapy department offers.
